Federal authorities in the United States do not have any compulsory certification requirements for electrical products, and recognize most certification bodies, including ETL, UL, etc. In fact, as long as NRTL is approved by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), it can provide independent evaluation, testing and certification services for electrical and gas (fuel) products in accordance with current safety standards.

Like UL and CSA, ETL can test and issue ETL certification marks according to UL standard or American national standard, or at the same time test and issue composite certification marks according to UL standard or American national standard and CSA standard or Canadian standard. The "us" in the lower right of ETL sign is applicable to the United States, the "c" in the lower left is applicable to Canada, and the "us" and "c" in both countries are applicable.
